FOR THE LOVE OF WINTER SERIES: WINTER PLEIN AIR DRAWING WITH MATT KANIA
March 13, 2021 at 2pm
Location: Minnesota Point
Description: "It's easy to draw outside in winter -- I'll show you!" Matt Kania will walk you through the process of drawing en plein air (a French expression meaning “in the open air”) at Minnesota Point Pine Forest Scientific and Natural Area in Duluth. You will be inspired by rolling snow covered sand dunes, young and old pine trees, and a varied landscape. Matt will teach you how to approach drawing from nature, from start to finish. He will help you to find interesting subjects and introduce materials that might be new to you, giving you the confidence to continue practicing this art form through the winter and of course into the warmer months.
Cost: $60/Participant with materials provided.
Teacher Bio: Matt Kania is a professional oil painter and fine art printmaker. Working outside on location as a painter (en plein air) has allowed Matt to combine his love for wilderness travel with his love for representational art. Over the years Matt has learned that the most challenging weather often produces the most endearing paintings.
Matt's deeply rooted love for Lake Superior and northern landscapes eventually led him to Duluth, Minnesota – where today he can be seen carrying his paint box to environs around the lake to paint, mixing paints in his studio to work on his next composition, or crafting a new original print in his print studio.
