Artist Sandra Brick’s multimedia work illustrates the memoir of her husband, Fred Amram, whose Jewish family fled Nazi Germany to the U.S. This dramatic collection of 24 artworks is paired with abbreviated stories, providing an emotional reminder of a dark period in history. Early modern items from the David Karpeles Collection provide further context. Amram’s book, “We’re in America Now: A Survivor’s Stories” (Holy Cow! Press, 2016), will be for sale at the DAI..

Joe Klander’s solo exhibit features drawings and full-scale dioramas exploring the wrestling heroes and strongmen of his youth, including the ultimate action figure of his day: Arnold Schwarzenegger. An accompanying documentary video by Mike Scholtz, “The Mask Behind the Man,” explores Klander’s multiple roles as artist, father, ophthalmology technician and wrestler.
