Color Emphasis: Landscape Workshop with Don Andrews
Monday-Friday, July 6-10, 2009
9am-4pm
$425 ($475 non-members)
We are incredibly pleased to bring nationally known artist and teacher, Don Andrews an active member and past board member of the American Watercolor Society to the Lincoln Building. His paintings have received numerous awards at the national level, and he has conducted over 400 watercolor workshops throughout the world. In this exciting and intensive workshop, painters will explore the natural world in fresh, exciting, and more personal ways. Regardless of the landscape they choose to explore, or their personal approach to painting, most watercolor artists have in common the search for a more vital color statement. Color offers artists a wonderful opportunity to express their individual feelings about any chosen subject. During the week you will explore color, design, organization, light, and its utilization in the exciting world of landscape painting. A daily schedule includes instructor demonstrations, discussions, individual help, and personal and group critiques. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to learn from a nationally renowned watercolor artist and instructor.

STUDENT MATERIALS LIST for
LANDSCAPE CLASS

  • One sketch pad
  • Markers or pencils
  • 10- 12 full sheets of water color paper. I use Arches Coldpress 140 lb. (Students may work any size they are comfortable with)
  • One easel per student (preferably a table easel, Don uses a French Box easel) as we will be working on a slant.
  • The usual watercolor supplies: Palette, paint, brushes, water container, paint board with clamps, paper towels, etc.
  • Several photos, sketches or other source material for class study.

NOTE: In addition to the usual brushes a 1 1/2" or 2" flat brush is recommended. I presently use a Robert Simmons Sky Flow flat brush, although other brands are satisfactory.

Don doesn't expect you to use the same colors; however he does emphasize that you should have 2 light, 2 medium, and 2 dark of all the primary colors. Most professional brands are interchangeable and include Holbein, Windsor Newton, Daniel Smith, and American Journey .

Teen Art Camp Session 2: Photographic Creations
Monday – Friday, June 22-26, 9am – 4pm
$200 ($250 non-members)
It was such a hit last year; we decided to bring it back again. Ansel Adams once said that “You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” Get ready for a week of making photographs and memories during our Teen Camp dedicated to traditional and digital photography. The first two days will be spent at the Depot darkroom discovering the origins of black and white photography – make a pinhole camera, create photogram collages, and paint with the chemicals for different effects. Take a camera home for the night and learn how to develop the film the next day. It’s magic to watch art appear right before your eyes! The rest of the week will be spent at the Lincoln Center taking this traditional knowledge and applying it to the Photoshop program in our Digital Imaging Lab. Trick out your images and ideas using the latest technology – it’s the best of both worlds. There might even be time to create a short stop-action film using imovie. Space is very limited for this camp! Ages 12-17.
