Opportunities for Artists
DAI Artist Nexus
2008 Preview
Every first Wednesday of the month
Lincoln Center – 2229 W. 2nd St.
6:30 pm-8 pm - FREE
Each month, the Duluth Art Institute invites artists of all ages, disciplines and skill levels to join in an informal networking and professional development series. Over the past year, topics have varied from presentations on photography and ceramics by local practitioners to more structured workshops. February’s meeting topic was led by Curator David Hodges, who discussed how to critique and examine work from all mediums and standpoints. In March, Nexus implemented those theories and practices by holding a group critique. April’s meeting was enriched by a lecture and discussion by Carla Stetson, who spoke about her work and how to plan and execute successful public commissions.
In the remaining weeks of 2008, we hope to expand upon our career development offerings while continuing to provide the Twin Ports arts community with a forum for socialization and lively discussion.
Wed., May 7— The World is Flat: Artists Who Work in Two Dimensions Present Their Work: Artists presenting their work and method in-depth to inspire and incite discussion.
Wed., June 4— Group Critique and Potluck: Bring your work, your ideas and a dish to share! This is a chance to see what others are working on, and receive feedback on your own ventures.
No meetings in July-August.
Wed., Sept. 3— Career Development Workshop. Details to be announced.

2008 Arrowhead Biennial Exhibition –
New CD Format Required This Year
Submission Deadline: Friday, August 22
For better or worse, welcome to the 21st Century! August 22, 2008 is the deadline to submit entries for a chance to be included in the 2008 Arrowhead Biennial Exhibition. Artists are invited to submit up to three .jpg images on a CD with a non-refundable $25 entry fee. No more than 2 entry forms (total of 6 images) per artist will be permitted (each entry form will cost $25). Slides will not be accepted this year and all submitted CD’s will be destroyed after the selection process. Slides can be transferred to a CD by your local digital photo processor.
The Arrowhead Biennial Exhibition has always been a showcase for some of the best artwork to come out of the upper Midwest. For this exhibition we cast our net wide—artists residing in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Michigan, and Ontario, Canada are all eligible to submit work. Typically 60 to 70 works produced within the last two years are chosen out of 400 or so entries. The Juror each year is a respected art professional. Thjs year’s juror will be announced in June. For this and more specific information on how to apply, stay tuned for future announcements at www.duluthartinstitute.org or by mail if you are an Art Institute member. This exhibition is a great opportunity to see what is going on in the visual arts in our broader region and how the arts continue to evolve and develop.
